In your opinion, what is the most startling "paradoxes of affluences" in the US?

That so many non-American people, all over the world, want to immigrate to the US in the hope of getting for themselves what they believe to be the benefits of US affluence, while so many Americans are unhappy and dissatisfied with life - as evidenced by the divorce rate, crime rate, and fees paid to psychotherapists and other mental health professionals.
